Katherine (The Kat) Sarkisov

The 2022 USA National Junior road race and time trial champion, Kat started cycling when she was 10 years old, winning her first National Championship in cyclocross (CX) at age 13. Along with 11th place at the CX junior worlds, her stellar 2022 season included wins at the USA Junior National road race, TT and CX. Her 2022 season also included a block of European racing with the Cynisca Cycling-sponsored USA Cycling development team and strong finishes in the UCI World Junior road and time trial championships in Australia.

A National Merit Scholarship Commendation winner, she is currently studying computer science at the University of Maryland.

Q&A with Kat:

Interesting jobs you’ve had?

“I’ve worked as a bike mechanic, and last year I completed a full-stack software development internship at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.”

Siblings? Any other riders in the family?

“I have 4 siblings. My younger sister also races seriously, and we are currently on the same cyclocross team. She is 15 years old. My dad, mom, younger sister, and my younger brother ride.”

Two-time AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Scholarship Commendation, NCWIT MD Honorable Mention

Do you volunteer? If so, where?

“Occasionally, I volunteer by coaching a junior cycling team and an alpine ski team.”

What attracted you to bike racing? Or how did you get started?

“My dad signed me up for a local junior team, and I fell in love with racing after my first race.”

What are your goals?

“Currently, my goal is to be top 10 at Worlds (either road or cyclocross).”

“Iceland, Switzerland”

One destination you want to visit?

“Sweden”

What’s your superpower?

“I can drink a lot of coffee, at any point in the day, but then again so can 90% of cyclists.”                                           

Favorite snack on a long ride?

“Pop tarts”

“Any stage races”
