Q&A with Émilie:

Interesting jobs you’ve had?

”I taught karate and spent a summer as indoor surf monitor in my hometown.”

What attracted you to cycling? Or how did you get started?

“I’ve always loved to ride my bike as soon as I learned how to ride it. A friend in my cross-country team told me she had a discount if I came to a training with her bike team. I did it with my hybrid bike and managed quite well. I learned how to clip over the weekend and next week I was back with a race bike.”  ”

What do you consider your strengths in cycling?

“Endurance: I am good in tough races or in hard conditions. I also like stage race and time trial efforts, although I never got a proper run at it in the elite category.”

What do you consider your strengths off the bike?

“Games of logic and strategy; Writing; Challenges of all types!”

Who are your role models?

“There are so many! Individuals who manage to achieve success and are still hungry for more (Remco, Van der Breggen) or the ones that find the strength to move to the top and stay there for many years (Van Vleuten, Vos). I also look up to my mentor, Pascal Hervé, because I know his story and he inspires me in the everyday life.”

What inspires you?

“The capacity of the human mind to adapt and surpass the once physical limitations.”

Where is your favorite place to ride?

“The mountains, everywhere in Europe… I’ve been to France in the Alps, the Pyrenees! The roads are brutal, and the landscapes blow my mind.”

What is your superpower?

“My determination.”

What would you like to look back and tell your grandkids you did?

“I’d like to tell my grandkids I did everything I could to become the best version of myself.”
